Francisco de Paiva Fanucci

Born on April 3 in Cambuí, Minas Gerais state

1971-77
Studies architecture at the Faculty of Architecture and Urban Studies at the University of São Paulo (FAU-USP).

1974
Together with colleagues from FAU-USP, creates a space for research and design known as the Galpão (Warehouse), on Rua Felipe Alcaçova, in Vila Madalena, São Paulo.

1975
Internship with architect Júlio Roberto Katinsky.

1977-78
Works in the firm of architect Abraão Sanovicz.

1978–79
Works in the firm of architect Joaquim Guedes.

1980
Found the firm Atelier Vila Madalena with architects Marcelo Carvalho Ferraz, José Sales Costa Filho, Marcelo Suzuki and Tâmara Roman.

1981
Ends the partnership of Atelier Vila Madalena, and founds the firm Brasil Arquitetura with architects Marcelo Carvalho Ferraz and Marcelo Suzuki.

1980–83
Works at the company Eplanco Engenharia e Planejamento S/C Ltda., where he creates designs for stores, bank branches, factories, etc.

1981
Participates in the team of architect Lina Bo Bardi in the National Public Competition for Urban Restoration Designs for the Vale do Anhangabaú, São Paulo.

1982
Design of Training Center for workers in the store chain Casas Pernambucanas in São Paulo, with architect Maria Zarria Uehbe Dubena.

1986
Founds the furniture-making shop Marcenaria Baraúna with the partners from Brasil Arquitetura, for work of designing wood furniture and other objects.

1991
Participates in the team of architect Lina Bo Bardi in the National Public Competition for the Design of the Brazilian Pavilion at the Seville Universal Exhibition.

1993–95
Carries out teaching activities as professor of course in design for the Architecture program in the Faculty of Architecture and Urban Studies at the University of Braz Cubas, Mogi das Cruzes, SP.

1994
Designs the new head offices of Milfra Indústria Eletrônica Ltda., in Jaguariúna, SP, with architect Desirée Pierro.

1999
Panelist for the Seminar “A Floresta e o Pólo Moveleiro no Amazonas”, Manaus, Amazonas state, at the invitation of SENAI and the Professional Association of Forestry Engineers of the state of Amazonas.

2002–04
Teaching activities as professor of course in Design in the Architecture program in the Faculty of Architecture and Urban Studies at the Braz Cubas University, Mogi das Cruzes, SP.

2003
Conference participant at the Second Steel Architecture Meeting (IAB – São Carlos, SP).
Delivers inaugural lecture for the course in Architecture and Urban Studies at Mackenzie Presbyterian University, São Paulo, SP.

Honourable Mention in the competition for the “Temblo Beth El” Synagoge in São Paulo, SP.
1st Prize in the International Competition for a Residence in Hanko, Finland.

Publishes the book “Francisco Fanucci Marcelo Ferraz – Brasil Arquitetura Studio” with a retrospective of 26 years of works by the practice.

2006
Special Prize in the Competition for the City Hall of Hortôlandia – SP.

Retrospective of the works by Brasil Arquitetura Studio at the University of Washinton in Sant Louis, USA.

Retrospective of the works by Brasil Arquitetura Studio at the Escola da Cidade in São Paulo.

2nd Prize in the category “Best Intervention in the Built Patrimony”, organized by the International Center for the Conservation of the Patrimony (CICoP Argentina) and by the Sociedad Central Society of Architects, with the project for the Rodin Museum of Bahia in Salvador.

1st Prize Ex Aequo in the category “Intervention in the Built Patrimony” of the Panamerican Competition BAQ/2006 (International Biennale of Architecture in Quito) for the Rodin Museum of Bahia in Salvador, Bahia.

1st Prize in the category “Built Work (Patrimony)” of the 5th Architecture Biennale of Brasília for the Rodin Museum of Bahia in Salvador, Bahia.

1st Prize Ex Aequo in the category of “Built Works (Commercial and Institutional Building)” for the Primary School in Santo André.

Honourable Mention in the category “Written Works (Published) by the Brazilian Institute of Architects, São Paulo 2006, for the book “Francisco Fanucci Marcelo Ferraz – Brasil Arquitetura Studio”.

2007
Finalist of the International Architecture Competition for Sustainable Housing Living Steel

1st Prize in the invited competition for the new Shalom Synagogue and Community Centre in São Paulo.

Winner of the 7th International Biennale of Architecture of São Paulo with the Rodin Museum of Bahia in Salvador.

2008
Retrospective in Florianópolis (Santa Catarina).

Retrospetive of the projects for the KKKK complex, the Rodin Museum of Bahia, the Bread Museum, and pieces of furniture by Baraúna at the Tokyo Art Museum in Japan.

“Rino Levi” Prize Ex Aequo by the Brazilian Institute of Architects of São Paulo for the Bread Museum.

1st Prize in the category for Social Housing by the Institute of Brazilian Architects of São Paulo for the project Vila Nova Esperança.
